1944 Austin K2 Ambulance
Bought by Tim Shelcock in 1990 in running condition but not fitted out. He was lucky enough to find several donor vehicles rusting away in Scamblesby, Lincs to fit out the interior. He says it is steady to drive, rolls a little on corners and unusually is fitted with shock absorbers to improve the ride for casualties. This, together with greater carrying capacity made them popular with the USAAF and so was provided as reverse Lend Lease. The body is canvas and hardboard on an ash and metal frame. Rescued originally from a scrap yard in Herne Bay this was still in Army Service in 1955.
